Mission

The Engine Rebuilders Council exists to create awareness of the economic and environmental benefits of rebuilt and remanufactured engines to extend vehicle life. We will achieve our mission by developing and distributing educational materials, promoting the value of rebuilt and remanufactured engines and supporting the business growth and success of our membership.

History

The Engine Rebuilders Council (ERC) is a non-profit organization dedicated to educating consumers about the economic and environmental benefits of rebuilt and remanufactured engines.

ERC was formed in 1999 by a group of automotive industry leaders in response to a growing concern among professional engine rebuilders that most consumers do not know about the benefits of rebuilt engines. These concerns were supported when a motorist survey discovered that nearly 74% of consumers were not aware of this alternative. In 2003, ERC became a segment of the Automotive Aftermarket Industry Association (AAIA).

ERC is described as an industry alliance for consumer awareness, but it is also active in promoting economic and ecologically intelligent solutions to problems associated with major engine damage and/or failure.

Consumer awareness

ERC has developed an informative website geared to educating vehicle owners about engine replacement options.  Many consumers do not understand the cost savings, performance and environmental benefits of repowering a worn out used engine.  

The website includes a powerful Find-A-Shop search engine designed to steer customers to an ERC Shop.  ERC members are entitled to an enhanced listing on the Find-A-Shop program including an ERC logo, email link, website link, hours of operation, professional affiliations and services provided.  Members of ERC are encouraged to link your company’s website to www.enginerebuilder.org.

Who are ERC members?

ERC members are aftermarket industry professionals including  production engine manufacturers, custom engine rebuilders, manufactures of engine parts,  warehouse distributors, machine shop owners, manufacturers’ representatives, publishers, engine rebuilders and installers who are working together to make long term vehicle ownership an attractive, economic reality.

Why should i join AAIA's Engine Rebuilder segment?

When you join AAIA's Engine Rebuilder segment, you'll be joining with a group of aftermarket industry leaders to help educate motorists about the economic and environmental benefits of installing a rebuilt engine. It is vital that the motoring public understand the benefit of repowering vs. replacing a vehicle. Your dues will help support this industry effort to communicate and promote the repower concept in North America.

Engine builder/rebuilders qualify for special membership rate

ERC wants to educate consumers on the reasons why engine repowering should be considered when their vehicle’s engine fails or needs major repairs. The more businesses that are represented by the engine rebuilders council, the louder our voice becomes.

Engine builders/rebuilders can join ERC for just a cost of $50 per shop and receive an online resume on the Find-A-Shop program, “Serious Engine Trouble” brochures and posters, bi-weekly Smartbrief newsletters, access to syndicated ERC press releases and stories, legislative representation, health insurance quotes, market research and educational programs.

Engine Rebuilder segment committee and liaison

ERC needs industry leaders to help spread the word of engine rebuilding.  The ERC segment committee meets twice a year to help plan the activities and events of the segment. Opportunities exist to become involved in the leadership of the association through serving as volunteers on segment committees. Segment leadership is reviewed every year, and new candidates are nominated. To become involved with the ERC segment committee, send a letter of interest and bio to the ERC segment liasion, Courtney Carbone.
